Wildlife Weekend
It’s been a couple years of hibernation, but MAEOE is ready to bring back Wildlife Weekend.
Wildlife Weekend is an opportunity to learn about Michigan’s outdoors winter outdoors at the Department of Natural Resources’ Club Med: The Ralph A. MacMullan Center on Higgins Lake. Many of you have journeyed to the RAM center for the Academy of Natural Resources, but have you visited in the heart of winter?
On February 10-12, 2023, MAEOE will be holding two workshops during that start on Friday evening and conclude at noon on Sunday. These workshops are intended for the whole of Michigan (not just MAEOEites), with the hope of spreading the good word of environmental and outdoor stewardship. Furthermore, if you are planning on attending the DNR’s Nature Center Summit on that Friday, you will always be there to continue the learning and fun.
Your options:
Strand One. Wildlife: Where the Wild Things Are? Learn about how the animals in Michigan cope with winter. Bundle up and look for birds and signs of mammals, learn about hibernation and migration, and get a better understanding of all animals during the winter.
Strand Two: Winter Omnibus. Get ready to leave the cave and go snowshoeing, learn winter outdoor survival, winter tree identification, and ice fishing.
At the end of the evening, rest in front of the fire and make new friends, play cards, drink some winter libations, and enjoy the great cabin feel of the Ram center.
The weekend, which includes all of the instruction, two dinners, two breakfasts, and two lunch, costs $275 for MAEOE members and $295 for nonmembers. So, go find some friends who need to get out of their cave and sign up to visit Higgins Lake and see how beautiful it is in the winter.
